Sweden Rotary Youth Exchange

Sweden Rotary Youth Exchange
The Rotary youth exchange in Sweden was launched in 1964. Since then we have sent approximately 8000 youth exchange students abroad and have hosted as many foreign exchange students in Sweden. The 10 Swedish districts form a multidistrict which is approved by the Rotary International to function toward the aim of, for example, youth exchange program. In 1981, the Sweden Rotary Youth Exchange Foundation was founded in order to facilitate the youth exchange programs.

The programs of the Sweden Rotary youth exchange are the long-term exchange (one-year exchange program), the short-term exchange (summer exchange program), summer camps and Georgia Rotary Student Program. In the beginning, our exchange partners were limited mainly to USA and Canada. Today our youth exchange programs have expanded to Argentina Australia, Brazil, India, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, South Africa, European countries and so on. Camps take place in all the European countries as well as in Turkey and Israel.

Sweden annually sends/hosts 300 exchange students in total. Each year, roughly 8,000 young people participate in the Rotary youth exchange programs world-wide.

The Swedish districts are not only multidistrict but also multinational districts. In July 2000, Latvia officially joined district 2410 in Sweden. In 2001, northern and south-western parts of Russia were united to the Swedish districts 2350 and 2370 respectively. Sweden usually sends a couple of exchange students from Russia/Latvia to other countries each year.
